Linux and Adaptec 1542

I have installed the Slakeware Linux on my PC but after installation I
cannot access my Sound Blaster CD.
After looking at the HOW-To CD, I ahve recompiled the kernel. But now
the
system recognised my CD, find my AHA1542 SCSI card but cannot find the
hard
drive to mount the file system.
It will boot up from the hard drive using LILO but then it display the
following message :
Configured Adpater at IO:330, TRQ 11, DMA priority 6

But if I boot from the Emergency disk which was created before doing the
kernal config, it will find my hard disk but not the CD rom.
Any idea ???

IO 330. Could that be used by your sound card? Perhaps you can change
the sound card io or the adaptec io.

The Adaptec I/O address is conflicting with the MIDI address on the sound
card. Jumper the Adaptec to IO:334 and all will be well.

Your Adaptec is set to IRQ 11, DMA 6. You stand good chances to have
(accidentally or on purpose) your sound board configured to use DMA 6
as well. (Those were the default settings for my GUS and its Soundblaster
emulation under DOS, where that was none of a problem...). Since Linux
on boot-up configures the sound board first and then tries to configure
the SCSI host adaptor, if both use DMA 6, the second in row will be
suspended, resulting in just the errors you're getting.
To fix:
- Easy way: Open your PC, get out the Adaptec and set it to DMA 5.
- Hard way: Reboot with kernel disk, build new kernel and MAKE SURE
to set sound support to another DMA value!!!
