You can find out the latest kernel versions by looking at
http://www.linuxhq.com You'll also want to read the kernel howto,
available from the Linux Documentation Project (links to it at
linuxhq), as you'll want to recompile your own kernel to customize
the drivers in.

The latest stable kernel version right now is 2.0.30. As for the
distributions, all of the three major ones have pretty much everything
you want (not quite this weeks version of everything, but it's all
quite recent). RedHat is at 4.1(though I believe they're expecting
a new version fairly soon), debian is(I think) at 1.2, and slackware
just came out with 3.2. RedHat and debian have pages at www.redhat.com
and www.debian.org, don't know about slackware.
