I'm a "newbie" who just installed Red Hat Linux 7.1 on my laptop and
do not know the way back to Windows/
I had earlier used partitin Magic to create a logical partition for
Linux and a swap drive(hda5 and hda6).memory for these was about 7 GB
for the logical drive and about 2 MB for the swap drive.
Yesterday I installed RH 7.1 and did the installation to the logical
drive.
I selected laptop ionstallation. After the install linux has got
loaded correctly.
But everytime I logout (using halt -p) I am returned to Linux.
Is there anyway I can get back to Windows ? Have I missed setting soem
option during the install ??
HELP!!!

Take a look in /etc/lilo.conf and see if there are 2 or 3 lines at the
end of the file refering to the windows partition. Something like this.

other=/dev/hdaX
label=windows # this may say something other than windows.

If this line is there then try booting and at the lilo prompt enter:

windows # or what ever was on the "label=" line.

If you are having problems shutting the system down.

First you must be root to shut it down.
Second is "halt -p" isn't working try: shutdown -h now"
