Is there any place I can get Suse 9.2 Pro on the cheap (i.e. non-boxed
version) or is it illegal to buy copied cds or download the pro
version?

I notice many sellers on ebay selling mandrake 10.1 but none selling
suse 9.2 pro. why is that?

should i get mandrake 10.1 instead of suse?

also what happens when suse or mandrake releases a new version? say
suse 9.3. Do i have to reformat my whole hd and reinstall the new
OS!?

i'm confused.

- Here you can download suse linux:
http://www.novell.com/products/linuxprofessional/downloads/suse_linux/index.html
- Before you install a linux you should ask yourself what you want to
do with it, then pick a distribution which fullfills that need, for a
good overview of available distributions see e.g.
http://distrowatch.com
- As long as you keep all your data in say /home you can install a new
OS

You can get it Suse 9.2 Pro for free from Suse. You download a small
iso image and then do an ftp install from a local mirror.

here is a link to the doc:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/current/README.FTP

The free download is not identical to the commercial Pro release. The free
download has slightly more recent packages, but I believe lacks some of the
licensed, non-GPl software in the Pro release.

I actually prefer the free download version for use.

The HTTP install actually works better, since interruptions in the FTP
mirror feeds are fairly common as they become overloaded, and HTTP seems to
withstand that a bit better.
