Im running Linux 1.2.8, and Im trying to get slip to work. Im have a 288
modem, and I'm trying to connect to a sun sparc 1 also with a 28800. After I
connect in and fire up slirp...My computing aparat wont support slip, and
fire up a slattach /dev/cua1 &, I try to telnet to my host, and I get a
network
unreachable error. I think it's bacause maybe my machine only thinks it a
loopback.
Any ideas? Oh I have already defined the local Ip to be something else besides
loopback. But when I try to telnet to the local name it says the net is un
reachable.
It only works when I telnet to the loopback address.

Sounds like you forgot to add the proper routes, for your home compter
host1 and the remote host2, try the following after the slattach:
/usr/sbin/ifconfig sl0 host1 pointopoint host2
/sbin/route add host2
/sbin/route add default gw host2
This first command configures the serial interface (assuming sl0).
Not the spelling of pointopoint.
The second command adds a route the host on the other end, and the
last says that for an packets not on the local net, send them through
the gateway host2.
Hope this helps!
