I have a RedHat 7.0 box running ntpd Version 4.0. The service starts
fine, but in the /var/log/xntpd.log, I get tons of messages like this:
"ntpd[..]: recvfrom() fd=6: Connection refused"
ntpq prints the peers correctly and a ntp.drift file is also created.
The ntp-servers themselves are not firewalls or behind them seen from
the client's view.
Any help is appreciated

Almost sounds like there are problems connecting to one of your peers. Are
you sure that all of your peers are up and running and are allowing you to
connect to their NTP host. I presume that your ntpd is still working
correctly.

Take a look at your peers and compare them to your ntpd.conf file and see
whether any are missing. This could be the machine which is generating your
connection refused messages.
See ya
