Here's a wierd one:

I've got a standard RedHat-7.3 server installation using ipchains acting as
a firewall/gateway. I used Webmin-1.000 to configure ipchains.

The indications I get are that when the monitor goes into powersave mode, I
loose ip forwarding functionality. When I hit a keyboard key, my connection
returns.

I'm probably missing something simple, but my brain hasn't been able to make
the correlatoin between monitor power and network.

I'm at a bit of a loss here so ANY insight would be great.

Thanx in advance!

Just a thought, but could your whole system (rather than just your monitor)
be going into standby/suspend?

Might want to hop into your BIOS setup and double-check that you've
disabled the standby/suspend timers.

HTH!

I checked the BIOS, Standby was disabled, but Suspend was enabled. I
disabled it and I'm in the process of characterizing the problem alittle
more.

I still have a problem and I'm not real familiar with tracking network
activity from one nic to the other.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good tool to help me trace network
traffic? (logfiles, utilities, etc).

With c.o.l.n's help, I'm bound and determined to find this problem.

Thanks for the suggestion Brett. It at least helped me past the "powersaver"
aspect of things.

It's most likely the apmd daemon. Edit /etc/sysconfig/apmd and find the
lines
NET_RESTART=
NETFS_RESTART=
For a server, you want these to ="no"
