PCMCIA on debian 2.4.19

I have a problem with my pcmcia netcard:
With the 2.2.20 kernel there is no problem at all.
I installed the 2.4.19 kernel from ftp.kernel.org, and my laptop doesn't
find the pcmcia card. I tried with kudzu and discover, they regolarly work
under 2.2.20, but under the 2.4.19, for example discover says "skipping
i82365".
I tried installing linux-kernel-image-2.4.18 with the pcmcia packages from
apt-get.
Can anybody help me, apart from telling me to remain on the 2.2.20 which I'm
doing? :-)
