Hello

I am fighting with sound in KDE for almost two weeks.
I compiled & installed alsa-driver-1.0.9b, new libraries and utils.

Sound is working fine (all sound files can be palyed), but i can not
receive system sound in KDE. I tried to set in control center ALSA sound
(and all other available options instead of automatic detection) but
nothing changes - no errors, and no system sounds. Atrsd is working. No
errors reported in any logfile.

I also tried to install alsa-driver-1.0.9a and 1.0.8 but still without
luck. I use gcc 3.3.6. Two months ago with gcc 3.3.5 and alsa 1.0.8
everything worked fine, now it doesn't. Till then i upgraded KDE to newest
version. So a im not sure where might be the problem.
Could anybody help ?

Thanx
Michal

I've also had problems with system sounds when all other sound apps worked
fine and as a last resort, I found a workaround by:

KDE Control Center -> LookNFeel -> System Notifications ->
Player Settings

Check the radio button for 'Use an external player' and enter 'play' in
the 'player' box.

This has always worked for me, but I'm not sure why the problem occurs.
