Does anyone use the "attach" commmand to mount remote filesystems?
I remember reading the answer to my problem a while ago, but I did
have the problem so I ignored it. How do I solve this error.
I'm logged in in my own account (not root), and I get this:

chef:~> attach
attach must be setuid to root for this operation to succeed.
chef:~>

this works only if I'm su'ed to root. This worked just a couple
of hours ago. I forgot what I did. Thanks for the help.

You need to set it suid root like it says:

chmod 4755 /usr/athena/bin/attach

By the way, I don't know that there are a lot of systems that use
attach like we do. It seems to be part of Athena and the copy of
Athena (Vincent) only. I could be wrong though. Does anybody
else not on Athena or Vincent use add and attach?
