AFAIK, the Linux driver for the Realtek ALC889 supports SPDIF out.

I can't find any notice, wether the driver supports SPDIF in, too.

Does anybody know, wether this works?

The S/PDIF input is supported by the generic HDA code.

There shouldn't be anything to configure, except for selecting
the "Digital" recordind device.

Unfortunately, Gigabyte first said, that they would send me the
Toslink connector for SPDIF in, but after a while, when everything here
was installed (with the exception of SPDIF), they told me they no longer
have it.

Remarkable sales strategy. "Toslink in" was my reason to buy the board
instead of ASUS.
