Hi all,

I cannot get linux to recognise my Mitsumi CD-ROM...

At boot-up, I get a message "mcd=0x300,10 : Init failed. No mcd device at
0x300 irq10".

Following messages say "CD-ROM format not recognised..."

HELP...

thanks in advance...

Manish.

if your mitsumi is not ide, check the io address and irq for your
mitsumi controller. I know that single speeder would work.

Well, there's more information needed...

1.] Are you sure that that's the correct hex address and irq for your CDROM?
A good way to check this is if you have a DOS partition (I do, and I also
have a Mitsumi CRMC-FX001D 2x CDROM on a proprietary interface with a
Lxtcon sound card), check your config.sys to see at what address and irq
the CDROM is mounted there. (Granted if DOS cant see it either then
you're just screwed).

2.] Have you tried recompiling the kernel? You can go into
/usr/src/linux/include/linux/ and modify the mcd.h include file to reflect
the proper hex address and irq if it does not do so already. Also check
in /usr/src/linux/drivers/cdrom/ and look at mcd.c to make sure there's no
additional direct assignment of hex addresses and/or irqs (in other words,
the only place that hex address and irq should be defined is in the mcd.h
file).

I'm currently working on this problem for myself... I'll post anything if I
find it.

Are you sure that the mitsumi drive should actually be using the mitsumi
CD-rom kernel driver? It could be an ATAPI Mitsumi drive in which would,
I think, give the above error..

Cheers.
