keyboard lights don't work.

I have a Sytemax computer with an URL keyboard. I run Slackware
13.37. When I start up the lights indicating Num Lock and Caps Lock
work as expected but as soon as I activate kdm they stop working,
whether I choose KDE or XFCE. And after I activate kdm even a console
session won't make the
lights work again. Any thoughts?
