I have an NE 2000 compatible network card and a zoom modem. They are
both mapped to the same IRQ (3). How can I change this???

Any jumper/software options available ??

What other IRQ's are in use ??

My zoom modem can be jumpered to any com port(1-4). I don't know about
software options.
My NE 2000 compatible NIC has no jumpers and again, I don't know about
software options.
My system currently uses IRQs 0-7, 13, and 14 with eth0 using IRQ 3

I have read a little about setserial but I don't fully understand if this
will work. What I really want is to
set the IRQ of eth0 to something different. When I guess at a different
IRQ (8 - 12) the system does not
recognize it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jim

If it doesn't have jumpers, but EEPROM, then the configuration would be
changed through a setup program that would be included with the card. The
program is probably in DOS, so just configure the card there, and then go
back to Linux.

My first suggestion is to change the Zoom modem to COM1:. Since you say that
it is using IRQ 3 at present, I think you must have it jumpered to COM2:

At least COM1: (ttyS0) is usually on IRQ 4, I/O address 0x03f8
and COM2: (ttyS1) is usually on IRQ 3, I/O address 0x2f8.

Once you've changed the modem to be COM1:, then do the following as root:

cd /dev
rm modem
ln -s ttyS1 modem

A lot of programs expect to have the default modem on /dev/modem. The
above sets /dev/modem to /dev/ttyS1 (COM2:).

I hope this helps,
John

In my rather unsure and shaky experiences of life, etc. I have found that
the NE2K's usually come with a Config utility of some sort?

Maybe possibly usually for DOS!

If it's ISA, I can't help you. If it's PCI, don't worry about it.
