to install it by first copying the files on the hard disk
since Linux does not detect my CD-ROM drive.
I have an 8x Creative IDE CD-ROM drive, connected to the
second IDE controller on the motherboard (the hard disk
is connected to the first IDE controller).
The CD-ROM works fine with both Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0.
The drive is configured as SLAVE since, when I configure it as
MASTER, it is not recognized by the BIOS when the system
is powered up.
This looks strange since, being the only drive for the second
controller, it should be configured as MASTER.
Anyway, when Linux boots, it finds the hard drive /dev/hda, but then the
following message is displayed:
/dev/hdd: no response (status = 0xd0)
Any ideas ?
Thanks in advance.
Please reply also by E-mail since I am often unable to read the

Correct. However, this will sometimes not work.

Try adding
hdd=cdrom
to the startup parameters.
