I am going to be installing Debian 3.0 r1 on my old desktop soon (will
finally get rid of Windoze 98). I have an IDE ls120 superdisk (an
Imation original). I tried Knoppix 3.2 (based on Debian?) and it did
not recognize my ls120. All this shows is that Knoppix 3.2 does not
consider my ls120 to be common hardware (not surprising). My question
is: Can I get Debian 3.0 r1 to recognize my ls120 as an ls120 (ie.
read and write 120mb disks)? The ls120 works fine under windows. I
can boot DOS from a 120 mb disk.

(assumes LS120 disk is on secondary IDE interface as master)
modprobe ide-floppy
(insert disk)
mount /dev/hdc /mnt/ls120

Or, if you want to treat it as a SCSI device using IDE-SCSI emulation:

modprobe ide-scsi
(insert disk)
mount /dev/sda /mnt/ls120
(assumes you have no Real SCSI disks or USB Mass Storage devices
connected)

Or if you roll your own kernel, make sure that you include ATAPI floppy
support.

If you want a sophisticated rescue system (since most rescue floppies do
not recognize ATAPI floppy drives), install ZipSlack on a DOS formatted
bootable LS-120 disk (format a: /s from DOS/Win before unzipping it). It
creates a 75 MB umsdos system with room for additional Slackware packages.

If you DOS format an LS-120 from Linux, be sure to use -I (capital i)
switch: mkdosfs -I /dev/hdc

If you forget the -I, you will need to dd a bunch of zeros to the
beginning of the disk before it can be formatted in any OS (including
Linux).

Thanks.
I discovered the ls120 in sda (I have a 2910 adaptec card with only
a tape drive attached). I managed to mount it but did not do the
modprobe.

Thanks again for the help.
