I'm thinking about buying a system with the Vivitron 1776 monitor and
want to run at 1152x900 resolution (24bpp w/Matrox 4MB and XInside
1.3). I can't get the specs on the monitor at that resolution, though.
Is anyone using this monitor that can tell me what their vertical
refresh rate is at this resolution??

TIA

My monitor is
Gateway 2000 Vivitron1776
aka GW2K Vivitron 17 aka Sony CPD-17F23

Monitor spec says:

VertRefresh 50-120

HorizSync 31.5-64.0

It is a nice monitor to do 1024x768 at 75Hz.

I think you will NOT get better than 70 Hz refresh
rate at 1152x900. 70Hz is not very easy on eyes. I
don't get better than 70Hz in Win95. My card is STB
STB Trio64V+ w/ 2MB DRAM.

If you have money to match Matrox 4MB and XInside,
get a better monitor.

Well, I have GW2000 with Gateway 1776 and ATI Mach64 (WinTurbo)
and it can do 1152x864 @ 76.5.
XF86Config is included.

Hope it helps,
Dmitri.

Is anybody archiving these queries so that when I decide to upgrade I
don't need to clutter the group with a bunch or repeated questions?

Greetings from the future! I am still using my Vivatron 1776 continuously and without trouble. I hope you went with it in that build!

I went with Viewsonic. Had some trouble with colors flickering to
pink or blue hues too. It's been recycled.
Please re-post this, and my reply, around 1994. Then I'll get the Gateway.

Just another idiot vandalizing usenet.

That famous thread where Linus announces Linux? It's been vandalized way
too many times, idiots seeing a timeline at google and realizing they can
deface a historic thread. So they post, and each one doing it acts like
they are the first ones to think of it. It happened the first time google
created the bug that allowed replies to posts older than 30 days, and I
know I complained then, and the bug was fixed. But another iteration of
the "googles group" interface and the bug was back, and it's been there
for a long time now. People vandalize the famous threads, and they reply
to other threads when they have no reason to do so. Either start a new
thread, or don't bother. They are clueless and have no idea what usenet
is, so they think it's a "webforum", and thus blindly do damage to usenet.
And a lot of the time, they don't quote the message they are replying to
so what they are saying isn't often obvious, and they can't even reply
properly, so it looks like some idiot is starting a nonsense thread like
this, except they are replying to a post from 1996, when the post was
topical, and he got what was probably enough replies, and useful too.

Google has done damage to usenet.
