pktsetup and automounter

Hi folks,

I'm trying to get a DVD-RAM working here on my system. After a lot of
experimenting, I found that udf on a standard mounted cdrom does not
work very reliable. Sooner or later I get an error from the drive, at
which point the DVD-RAM will remain in an unusable state. Now, writing
to the device through pktsetup, i.e. packet writing, seems to work
better - no problems so far.

However, pktsetup has just another problem: It does not cooperate with
the automounter. If pktsetup is running, I cannot eject the volume
anymore. If I just press the front button, nothing happens. If I use
"eject", the volume comes out for a second, just for the drive to
re-load it a second later. Thus, you need to have fast fingers to get
the disk back. Not a good idea either.

Of course, you can then stop the packet writing, but this is somehow
anoying: Start packetwriting, mount the volume, write to it, umount it,
stop packet writing, eject volume. Annoying!

Is there any better way to get DVD-RAMs working on Linux?
