All,

execvp hangs if the argument is longer. I am unable to figure out how
many characters it takes. I am working on Redhat Linux 7.2.
I tried the same with less number of arguments and it works but
somehow, for larget args it does not work.
I really appreciate all your inputs.
Thanks,
SHekar

Sounds strange. I'd expect execvp to eithre suceed or return to
the caller. Have you tried using strace on the problematic process?
Of course execvp can take a long time if it has troubles accessing
the filesystem where the executable is located.

Longer than what?

Why?

Less than what?

And why is this urgent, by the way???

It probably isn't. My experience is that anything
with URGENT in the subject is rarely important. So
I'm less likely to actually read it. If I'm in a
hurry those are the postings I'm most likely to
skip over.

That's what I thought too.

Same here. Fortunately for OP, I actually had some time left...

All,

I was able to resolve the issue. The issue was not at all related to
execvp. It was acting up the way it was because on one of the
character arrays was goinf out of bounds.
Thanks for all your inputs though.
