Sophist Solutions releases Led 3.0 C++ Class Library
Easy to use, cross-platform text engine available
Sudbury, Mass. (June 3, 2002) -- Sophist Solutions has shipped Led 3.0, an update to the critically acclaimed C++-based class library. Led is designed to support the construction of text editors, word processors, HTML editors, and other text intensive applications. The Led text engine is lightning fast, even when working with very large files. It supports style runs, rulers, paragraph layout information, bullet lists, tabstops, word wrapping, object embedding (including OLE™, Pictures, URLs), syntax coloring, hidden text, and much more. Led is portable and cross platform, and takes full advantage of the modern user interface features of Windows 95/98/ME/2000/XP, Linux/X-Windows, and the Macintosh, such as Drag and Drop, OLE Automation, UNICODE, and Internet URLs.

The class library has undergone major revisions and improvements. The sophisticated use of C++ templates has allowed for a major simplification in combining different Led-based features without building them into every application that might want to use part of Led. Integrating with different class libraries and applications is now made much easier because of packaging templates. The entire imaging subsystem was revised to better factor out non-portable 'GDI' code, and to allow for Led to be more easily targetted for different platforms.
The library can now be built in non-UNICODE, full UNICODE, or hybrid UNICODE modes, allowing for maximal flexibility in integrating Led with your application. Led's high degree of UNICODE support (see Led FAQ#024 for details) allows for better internationalized text editing and word processing support, even on Win95, Win98, an Windows ME, where there are few UNICODE capable editors available. Led-based widgets make it easy for your applications to include UNICODE edit text controls or word processing windows.
The fastest editor class library has become even faster! While constantly adding new features to Led, attention has always been paid to its speed and stability. This release has undergone extensive testing and QA, and maintains (and perhaps even extends) Led's reputation as the fastest text engine available.
Very important to any programmer tool is the quality of the code, and the quality of the documentation. Everyone who has looked at Led is impressed. Also, the documentation has been even further improved for this release. The class reference is greatly improved, and there are now new documents which give a better overview of the organization of Led, as well as numerous new and improved examples and tutorials.
