I am looking for a version control package similar to Visual
SourceSafe. I would like the storage to be on a Linux server, and the
clients would be windows 95/98/NT and Linux (KDE). The client would
need a GUI along the lines of VSS.
Can anyone point me to a package that can meet these requirements.
Tutorials and good instructions would also be helpful.
Thanks in advance.

While I realize it violates the 'storage to be on Linux' issue, I use
SourceOffSite which connects to any Visual SourceSafe 5.0 or 6.0
(different versions) database. There are two parts: the server and the
client. The client runs on Solaris, Linux, and Win95/98/NT and looks as
close to VSS as possible. The server runs on NT (so far as I know) and it
does *not* have to be the same server as the one with the VSS Database.
There is a tremendous advantage to this configuration - it's true
client/server.
When I used to use VSS it would take me 40 min. to check in a large Visio
drawing. Now with SOS it's less than 4 min. I'm impressed beyond words.
I'm assuming they're sending my check-in to the server and doing the
diffs and checkin there, but what do I care - it's fast.
So... if you can live with a VSS database (which is a limitation in my
environment) at least you don't loose the ability to chekc-in/check-out
with this product.
Look at http://www.sourceoffsite.com/ for more...
