There will be a Open Systems World/FedUnix conference/trade show in
Washington DC on November 4-8. It is a traditional event devoted to
open computing (read: Unix), attended mostly by government and
commercial Information Systems types.

Since Linux gained some attention of such circles, there is a 2-day
Linux track at this conference. I am chairing a Linux-related session,
scheduled for Thursday, November 7, 1996. My idea was to invite
people who apply Linux in real world situations, both in the
government and the private sector, to tell us about their good
and bad experiences, and plans for the future.
It is a sign of maturity of Linux that I was able to find so many
people who both use and produce Linux hardware and software, in a
variety of interesting situations (see the talk schedule below). Many
exciting new developments occurred in and around Linux recently, and
some of them (Apple's MkLinux for Macintosh computers, emergence of a
body of commercial software, acceptance of Linux as the sound commercial
development and production platform) will be presented at the session.
Among the speakers, there are some who use Linux as a primary OS, as
well as those for whom Linux is just another environment. I am really
looking forward to hear their stories.
If you too are interested, please register and come to the conference;
(look up http://www.mcsp.com/OSW-FedUNIX.html or call Washington Area
Unix User Group people who arganize the conference at (301) 621-5500).
