15" laptops with 3200 x 1800 pixel lower power IGZO displays coming
-------------------------------------------------------------------

http://liliputing.com/2013/05/sharp-introduces-new-igzo-laptop-displays-with-resolutions-up-to-3200-x-1800-pixels.html

As well as the phenomenal resolution, it uses less power because
the device does not drain power when a pixel is static.

IGZO is a transparent material that could get fabricated
into any number of forms such as mirrors, bowls,
even a kitchen sink.

Hopefully Linux will have a working distro out for that
kind of laptop in no time and make it a common display
format.

How come you didn't invent that technology, 7? I have been waiting for a long time to buy one of your inventions but they never seem to get as far as production.

I'm blaming Microsoft.

Would be nice, if it were not yet another crappy 16:9 display.

Who thinks that these wide, skinny displays are so great for
computing?

I have a 27" 16:9 monitor, and I think it's great for computing.
(And a good thing, since I spent $300 for it!)

http://www.asus.com/us/Monitors_Projectors/VE278Q/

I can view two or three documents, filemanagers, web browsers, etc.
side by side. And it's tall enough that I can have a nice readable
taskbar at the top and a panel (with desktop-switcher, clock, etc)
at the bottom. Of course great for watching movies too.

But if you don't like that form-factor, you'll be able to get one
shaped like a kitchen sink!

Rotate it by PI/2!

A Windows user spends 1/3 of his life sleeping, 1/3 working, 1/3
waiting.

Linux is the scientific communityοΏ½s operating system of choice.
CERNοΏ½s Large Hadron Collider is controlled by Linux.
NASA and SpaceX ground stations use Linux.
DNA-sequencing lab technicians use Linux.
Really, for applications that require absolute stability,
which most scientific experiments are, Linux is the obvious choice.

Ack. Not then wide-enough, of course.

Ya' know, the old 4:3 format is really not bad. Better than 16:9,
IMO. Thank God we can still get a 24" 16:10, which is tolerable.

I never "lost" anything to the retard. I killfiled him as soon as I saw
him for what he was, which I think was on the second post I saw.

The idea is to cover more of the field of vision
which is 180 degrees for humans.

But at such high density and small screen, the idea there is to eliminate
the dots in the image and make it appear smooth and continious.

Yeah! Then you can watch prawn on your side whilst lying down?

But isn't that a bit like ROT 13 encoding gone horribly wrong?

Reminds me of 90 degree ethernet sockets being sold in Far East
online shops. Naturally, the straight sockets are now being
called 180 degree ethernet sockets.

Well, not really, although a hemispherical display that your head
could be "in", such is in the Omni/IMAX dome theaters, would be
awesome!

Yes, and that's all good, but I lament the lack of choices in aspect
ratios, these days. 16:10 is only available in 22" and 24" sizes,
AFAIK, and those have limited selection and availability.

Cue snotty assholes, like Ezekreep, to assert that I think that the
lack of choice is the "fault" of some corporation, like the lack of
choice in desktop OS's is Micro$oft's. Ignorant, trolling kreeps like
him like to attack advocates as ridiculous, even when they are being
quite reasonable and correct.

Read my lips, Kreep: There's nothing wrong with wishing that there
was more choice than what is offered in a market. Nor is there
anything wrong with lamenting other people's choices, what they "vote"
for. As long as verdict of the free market, or the result of the
vote, is accepted!

It is *OK* to bitch, as long as you don't try to impinge upon the
freedom of others! You *stupid* asshole.

What was that exchange about?

>What was that exchange about?

It was about the Raspberry Pi.

The Kreep wrote:

"Something this tiny is going to need a power-brick several times it's
size to power it. So why not just build the entire computer right into
the power brick like the Sheeva Plug.

Oh wait... you can plug it into a USB port and power it from there. In
which case all you need is a fully capable computer to plug this
gadget into."

I then called him an idiot for his claim that you need a fully capable
computer to plug it into, and I suggested the possibility getting
power from a USB hub, instead.

Yes, from *that*, the trolling fsckwit concluded that I thought that
the Sheeva Plug design is a "stupid idea". The *truth* is, I was only
challenging Kreep's assertion that the Raspberry Pi had a stupid
design. Choice, anyone?

Naturally, he kooked-out, lying about what I thought about the Sheeva
Plug, and claiming that my suggestion showed that I was a "complete
idiot", because then one would have to carry-around a USB hub and a
brick for that hub.

The *truth* is that Kreep was just too *stupid* to imagine a scenario
where "generic" things, like HDMI monitor, keyboard, mouse, and USB
hub, were stationary, while only the computer was moved-around.

Here's the complete spanking, that I gave him:

<k7bgs65u7po33jb6v...@4ax.com>

I received no apology, or thank-you, for correcting the fsckwit, of
course. :-D
