Microsoft Fans "testified" for months, how fast and fantastic Windows 7
was (in comparison to Vista), so this was my chance to check out if they
where right, or just lying (as usual).
Well first of all, it didn't detect any of the hardware right. The GPU
is a nVIDIA Geoforce 7000M (a very common GPU in laptops). Windows 7
however installed a general VGA adapter driver. The screen was detected
as a common 1024 x 768 CRT.
Ehrm... a laptop with a CRT as its default screen?
Next the Ethernet adapter (nVIDIA nFore, also common) was not detected,
nor the Atheros 802.11b/g WLAN.
Meaning there was no way, to download the right drivers, to solve these
problems. Average Joe Six pack (who Windows is all about, according to
the Vole and its shills) would get stuck here.
So on my good old Dell Optiplex GX240 (2002), running Kubuntu 9.04, I
downloaded the required Vista drivers from the Acer support site and
copied them to a USB thumbdrive.
Unfortunately after 12 (yes *twelve*) hours of trying to connect to my
(wireless) access-point I finally gave up. Shoved the fresh received
Ubuntu 9.04 CD-ROM (from the ShipIT service) in my external USB DVD RW
drive, which took me out of the misery.
My conclusion is, that Windows 7 is nothing but a very bad and outdated
paint-job of Vista.
To those who still use Windows XP (because you disliked Vista), my only
advice is: stick to XP as long as the Vole lets you, because Windows 7
is absolutely not worth the effort.
If you don't believe me, you always have the option to download Windows
7 RC1 and obtain a free (time limited) production key.
However in the end, you will probably agree with me that you've waisted
over 2 GiB of bandwidth and yet another DVD recordable.
I should have known better...

What a *shock*, another MS OS doesnt live up to the hype!
Sorry you wasted your time, but it's still good to hear real reports about
Vista7 instead of the astroturfing PR machine.
Personally I can't wait for Vista7 to be released :)

Why?
I tried Vista in a VirtualBox under Debian. Works great and doesn't
"infest" my partitions.
Why are you writing reviews of MS SW here?

This is even the case for XP SP3. I have an old Dell Precision M65. The
only network interface it detected was bluetooth! Like you, I had to
download the wifi driver from Dell on another PC (running Linux of
course) and then burn it to a CD just so I could install it on windows.
So my first and probably last windows install on a 'naked' PC since W95
failed. I'll have to check if Apple / vmware have solved the problem of
updating the iphone OS with itunes running in a vmware VM.

Infestations and Linux freetards seem to be a common combination.

Odd. According to Hadron Quark, Windows networking "just works".

I'm not sure why you'd think Windolts stopped lying after the decades
of rigorous training they've had. But it's still good to read about the
real experiences of a real person rather than the test labs who have a
vested interest in smoothing over as much as they can or the Windufii
who have to convince themselves they aren't wasting all of their time
and money on a hopeless cause. I especially like the part that this
"polished" "OS" doesn't know what to do with common hardware that
already existed before it was allowed to escape and devour mankind.
I wasn't planning on touching Windwoes 7 Vista ME III. Not now.
Hopefully not ever. But I can't predict what the really smart MCSEs in
our IT department might do. Fortunately they now have a guy working
there that isn't a complete dummy (they had to create a high-paid
position and put him in it because they couldn't do the job - he's OS
agnostic, and has already deployed linux in several ways).
Unfortunately he's got his hands full trying to fix the things the
brilliant MCSEs screwed up, which seems to be far more than anybody
ever imagined. That only means the brilliant NCSEs might push through
worthless desktops while this guy is looking the other way, with his
eye on the long list of networking problems.

Nope, I knew right from the start, that it was nothing but hot air. By

Wait, A Linux advocate complaining about how crappy an OS is because the
video isn't setup right and the Wireless doesn't work out fo the box?
Those are the #1 and #2 complaints by most people about Linux for the last
10+ years.
You really didn't think this argument through, did you?
Even ubuntu 9.04 doesn't configure my displays correctly. I have to jump
through hoops to make it work, yet Windows detects it just fine.
BY the way, Windows 7 RC does in fact have a nvidia driver, I know.. i have
a nvidia card it worked out fo the box. I also have an Atheros wireless
NIC and that worked too. Could be you have some odd model.
In any event, I'm pretty sure your wired NIC would have been detected. You
could have plugged it in temporarily to your router to download the
drivers.
There is no cola "charter" you idiot!

Plain old FUDdenbush, Ubuntu does detect your GPU! After you've
installed Ubuntu, it will pop up a message within a couple of minutes
and prompts you to install the required (non Free) binary blob driver.
It has been that way since the Hardy Heron release and has ben pointed
out to you Wintrolls over and over and over again.
Please make up some better FUD Erik, because nobody any longer buys this
nonsense. Everybody who actually installed Ubuntu will be able to
confirm that this is a plain LIE!

No it did not, without the prober drivers you are simply screwed. Why on
Earth should I make this up. I confess /I hate Microsoft's dirty
practices/ but I am always willing to give a new version of Windows a

Windows 98SE was the last good release of Microsoft Windows, every
version beyond sucked even more than its predecessor.

LOL :-) unfortunately most Linux users in this group actually do have a

I spotted Hadron Quark on a Debian mailing-list, some time ago, because
he complained about something in Debian (can't remember what) The Debian
community expressed its loyalty to Hadron. And this is probably his only
(single) contribution to the GNU/Linux ecosystem. Everything else he
spews is hatred, insult and profanity.
I guess I've explained this many times (gets a bit boring) but in
contrast to Hadron's claim I am /everything/ but incompetent.
I am using GNU/Linux as my default Operating System for over a *decade*
now, and from time to time (depending on what distribution I use) I only
have minor issues. However I always find a way to address these issues.
It is crystal clear, Hadron Quark is the liar, not me. I have absolutely
no reason to lie.

couple of seconds I realized he was quoting the Q00k.
Priceless, did not have such a good laugh for ages :-)
Huh? I KNOW it WAS a Windows App. I ASKED if it had "gone native yet".
WTF is wrong with you losers?

So that's it: "For *discussion* of the benefits of Linux *compared* to

Thanks for sharing, cos that makes it very licit to post "discussion"
messages in COLA about the advantages of other operating systems compared
with Linux crapware OSsen.
Very encouraging to hear that from you, you moron.

No. When describing Chris Arsestrom. He's a windows programming suck up
who actively boasts about how much money he makes from MS SW and at the
same time calls real OSS advocates and developers "cunts" and
"fuckheads".
I actually think Marti might be a bit nuts the way he wets his panties
over any new distro.
And Willy Poaster is, of course, simply insane. He actually states that
Linux was ready for the corporate desktop more than 10 years ago.
The mind can become a dangerous place to be when trying to put oneself
in the mindset of a lying, hypocritical, vicious, man-child mind of a
COLA "advocate".
It's more moronic drivel from Gary wearing his wooden high heels.

Yup, he thinks everybody shares his strange preferences. And btw he is
also full of "sphincter". As a non native English speaker I didn't had
a clue what on Earth a sphincter was, because Hadron seems to be
obsessed with it, I looked it up at Google translation and I was distracted!
LOL :-) match! exactly my thoughts :-)

The Hadron Quack troll is Arse-water of the First Magnitude. i.e: he just
spouts verbal diarrhea, with no substance.

Aha!, you must be a highly respected member of the COLA politburo lead by
General Secretary Schestowitz:
Never criticize Linux, only positive news about this inferior crapware is
appreciated in COLA.
You linux freetard advocates must be nuts to advocate an OS that hasn't
reached 1% of the desktop market despite 16 years of advocacy.

I said, configure my displays. I didn't say detect my GPU. I have dual
monitors, flat panels, of different sizes (one's 1920x1200, the other
1680x1050). No version of Linux that I have ever used has setup these
displays correctly.

I haven't seen a non-server wired NIC no detected by Windows in a long

Exactly. What's would be the point? To prove that "Windows isn't
perfect"? To prove that "some people have problems with thier Windows
PC"?
What kind of a sad loser would spend time searching-for and posting
"proof" of stuff like that?

Duno, hoping that it will drive potential users away from Windows? Oh
wait, since they are in a Windows-advocacy group they are most likely
already using it. So, it's to late.

Using "slipstreamed" CD's is hardly representative of the typical
