(Example with getting Cisco VPN client activated...)
1. I doubleclick a launcher in Linux.
2. It opens Mozilla in such a way that I have a Mozilla window with
nothing but a titlebar and an X to close it. It loads a web form that
asks me for a username and password for my VPN connection.
3. I click Submit and a receiving page, written in Javascript (unless
Bash can be used as CGI), receives the request and uses Bash to execute
the instruction. Therefore, since I have just put in a username and
password, it shells out from Javascript to Bash, temporarily adjusts my
firewall (iptables), fires up /etc/init.d/vpnclient_init, then does
vpnclient connect <profile> and passes it my username and password.
4. The commands from shell execute and the result is posted back to me
in the Mozilla application.
5. I click the X on the application and I'm done. (I could then adjust
the application so that it prompts whether to disconnect or connect to
VPN.)
Your help would be most appreciated.
Have you had a look at Webmin? It may not be quite what you're looking
for, but it might give you some ideas, and it is BSD licensed, so
there's no problem with using the code:
