As we replaced the older DOS boxes with newer machines running WIN98
SE and Windows XP, the new PC's started to experience long delays
printing to LPT2 on the server. I should add this printer only prints
a small receipt on NCR paper that is 33 lines long. The progam sends
the printer control string for page length. These PC's have no long
delays printing to LPT1 and this NCR form is 66 lines long.
The printers on the server are not redirected to itself. I checked the
box that asked if we printed from MS-DOS applications.
Setup for the Win 98 PC's: I redirected both LPT1 and LPT2 to the the
server's printers. I created printer objects for each printer on each
machine. I tried using the command "LNET TIMEOUT" command from the
"RUN" window with different timeout values. I had mixed results. The
print job would start much more quickly, however, it would only print
about half the receipt and the print job would stall and about 10~15
seconds later, the printer would start printing lines of control
characters and ejecting lots of paper.
Do you have any suggestions to speed up the print jobs on LPT2?
Thanks for your time,
Rick
Given that most PC's don't come with 2 paralell ports, I assume you used
an add in card for the lpt2 port on the server.
It sounds like it might be an interrupt issue. Is the card set to use
interrupts? if so, which interrupt?
