So I get a call today, an old customer wants a major update to their
embedded boards based on HD 64180s, the early version of the Z180. Been
quite a while but I still have an old Z80 based CP/M S-100 development
system that has exactly what I need, except for the Z180 embedded
peripherals. If I could replace the CPU card with one based on a Z180 (or
preferably the older Hitachi part) I'd have everything needed for the
project. An emulator isn't a good solution since this is highly hardware
dependent and has critical timing issues with external devices.

So does anyone have a Z180 CPU card for an S-100 system? It doesn't have to
work with a front panel, though IMSAI support would be nice. And I have
plenty of good quality static ram for it, no DRAM timing issues. I do need
access to both async serial ports and the shift register serial port. I
have everything else necessary, including CP/M BIOS, drivers, etc. Someone
else is paying for it so I can offer cash. I'm located in Nevada, southwest
US.

Hello Jack-

Howard and I should have a few prototype versions of our EZ80-based MPU-C in a
few weeks. They might be more than you need, but would certainly fill your
requirements. I'll forwrd a copy of your post to Howard for comment. You can
also e-mail him for details at hharte at hartetec dot com.

Thanks but I need the exact mix of ports and speed of a 64180. An eZ80 is
too much at this point, tho I'm trying to convince the customer to make a
new board run with an eZ80 once they run out of the current inventory.

I have a card on loan and its manual, which I can copy. The card does not
work, so I'm curious if anyone has experience with it, or the HD64180 on the
S-100 bus. The card is by Magnum Digital of Missouri and is named "PRO-180",
dates in the manual suggest 1985. The monitor ROM listing is by "Dion Vaughn"
of MO. MOst of the manual is data sheets for the '180; with 20 pgs of
jumper and general info, another 20 for the ROM source and some "theory
of operation". No schematics; it would be painful to create them from
tracing the card out.

Anyone with comments? Memories about this card?

I think I have two Z-world 64180 cards. Is that what you want?

Aren't those ISA bus cards? I think the poster was looking for an S-100
bus card.

It's an ISA bus card, designed for XT- & AT-vintage PCs which acts as a
"coprocessor", i.e. a completely separate "computer" which happens to be
accessible from the PC's side of the ISA interface. It allows running,
among other things, CP/M programs "on the PC" -- with limited access to the
PC's resources, ports, display, etc.
