Likewise I am looking for DOS software that would convert to CP/M and
vice versa. I have tired a copy of 22DISK that I downloaded from
Compuserve, but it will not work on an AT or later computer. I have a
KayPro 4 that I would like to get some more miles out of (Perfect Writer
is a dandy word processor), if I could copy the files to my 486 with a
1.2 meg 5.25 drive. Any web sites or ideas on where this can be
obtained?

I have 22dsk142 running on my 486 and haven't had any problems reading
Kaypro disks. One thing that has come up with some people is that the
difference in disk controller IC's can sometimes cause a problem because
of a slight difference in timing when formatting disks. The solution that
has worked for some is to format the disks on a 360k drive on a PC with
22dsk and transfer the Kapro files to that disk. You should be able to
read the disks in a 1.2 Meg drive, but don't format them there. You will
have trouble if you write with a low density drive on a disk that has been
formatted in a high density drive.

The 1.2 drive is the problem - sometimes they play nicely, and sometimes
they don't. I'd honestly be inclined to swap it for a 360K; otherwise,
you could set up kermit or xmodem to transfer files between the two machines.
That's the way I get word processing files off my PX-8, and for small
amounts of data it's pretty handy.

I have 1.39, and haven't yet upgraded; on a DX/4 100 I have to drop out
of 'turbo' mode for it to work, but then it's totally reliable.

I seem to recall using 22disk to convert the cp/m com files to .cpm files, and then the 22nice's gencom utility to convert the .cpm to dos readable .com files.
Run them in dosbox after that. That was a long time ago, so my memory may be off.

22nice was the very first cp/m emulator, and I found very convenient
having basically a dual 8086/z80 machine without the disadvantage of
separate OS.

with hindsight, the lack of hypervising the two environments wasn't a
brisk thing, but in the end, in 2017 there's still no known cp/m
viruses, and the black hatters seems to have forgotten the art of
crafting tiny malware...

someone tried to test 22nice under dosbox and/or dosemu ? (I admit that
often I toyed with nested emulations... or count as criminal act against
CPU ? :D )

Best regards from Italy,
dott. Piergiorgio.

Hi dott.Piergiorgio

I didn't used 22nice for a long time. I have it on my harddisk but as I
am an old OS/2 user I like to use the DOSBOX from OS/2 which is a better
DOS than MSDOS was:-)
I use MYZ80 for CP/M emulation and it runs well with CP/M2 CP/M3 and the
ZCPR (NZCOM,Z3PLUS). As tody most people have a 32/64 bit Windows OS for
shure the DOSBOX is the only way to make use of such a old software like
22nicce. I don't tested if myz80 runs well with DOSBOX and i prefer my
OS/2 - even running in Virtualbox - as the OS/2 is like a swissknife for
my needs. I use ECS2.1 and my 'oldcomputers' runs with it very well.

Best Regards

I have used (and still use) myz80 running under dosbox on both a Wondows 7 machine and a Windows 10 machine without a problem. Sometimes I have to wonder why, but that's a different question :)

I use myz80 occasionally in dosbox. Works just fine.

I still have 22nice etc floppies 3" which Sydex of Oregon sent me about 20 years ago.
I could not use the disks because I did not have a 5 1/4 drive, nor possessed the technical knowledge to do the conversion.

The data on these disks: my secretary in 1985/6 suddenly received a Future FX20 desktop, and the contents will be all the documents.

I am simply interested in being able to read my handiwork way back in the 80's.

Anybody able to help, contact me on Jam...@hotmail.com, and/or 07973314309.

James.
