Does anyone have info about how I can get a manual (user guide and/or any technical reference) for Perfect Writer (CP/M) or the command summary card?

I am interested in the full generic version but a Kaypro manual for it would suffice.

I've searched and not found a url for any yet.

I am based in the UK and would be happy to scan-in and return any physical instance.

I am using version 1.03 and would love to hear if qnyone has a full version of a newer version.

The Kaypro version (1.20?) didn't ship with pwconfig.com and hence cannot be configured for other screen types (VT100 is the preferred terminal type on many modern z80- cp/m builds.

Also I'd love to know of any published books covering Perfect Writer - Abe Books has several copies of "Wordprocessing on a Kaypro", but doesn't clarify whether it covers PW or WS or both - Kaypro sold both.

I am trying to build up a collection of then popular word processors, try them out and see if any beat my favourite - Magic Wand.

I'd love to hear if anyone has Palantir word processor - Magic wand mutated into that before fading out.

Oh, sorry, my bad :-(

Just realized, there is only a pfconfig.com inside.

The next best, I could offer

<http://www.znode51.de/fog/fog200.arc>

* PWCONFIG.COM (Public Domain configurator for PW.... get it!)
* PWCONFIG.DOC (Three guesses, and the first two are SPAM)

PWCONFIG.DOC:
Kaypro does not enclose the commercial version of PWCONFIG in its
Perfect Writer master diskette collection: therefore, this public
domain version comes in extremely handy. It:
* Sets right and left margins
* Sets how many spaces the TAB key will scoot over
* Creates a PW.SWP file of any size from 8k to 128k
* Sets clock speed (2.5 Mhz Kaypro II's can run at 4)
* Sets "Swapping" delay, defaults at 300, try 1000 for size

In article <qjb3qg$ig$1...@gioia.aioe.org>,
I haven't been able to open the above link but this should contain
everything required for setting up Perfect Writer, including manuals:

http://www.retroarchive.org/cpm/text/PERF103.ZIP

I'm sure you're aware of this but PW is basically a more polished version
of MINCE which in return is a cut down version of emacs. The name of
course being a bit of a give away. Most commands work in a similar manner,
making Perfect Writer very easy to use if you're familiar with emacs.

Thank you, I have all the 1.03 files already but not got doc on all the print formatting commands which one needs in a word processor rather than text editor. I was hoping someone had the full ring binder doc, physical or scanned in (preferred). There is a strong danger of losing all these as time goes on, I'd like to try getting something up onto an archive, but I have to find it first, and use it for a while to see how it compares to other progs.

Try to remember that there have been hundreds of word processors written. At the time saying Wordstar was a leader is an understatement Wordstar had a 96% share. This makes finding Wordstar stuff easy and Perfect Writer almost impossible simply because Perfect Writer had to fight over the 4% share left.

Thanks but too expensive at approx $100, my budget (now on a pension) allows up to £12 inc shipping, hence hoping someone had scanned it in.

Sadly no, but

I have from an old Genie 16 the PW MSDOS Version 1.0 from 1983

Look at http://oldcomputers-ddns.org/public/pub/rechner/eaca/genie_16/image/advance-86/all/index.html

and look into the *.pc *.pw and *.mss files as they are the menue and helpfiles.

A word of warning: the file is actually a tarball (that is, a gzipped
.tar archive) whose contain the actual .iso

Fantastic, thanks! I did consider buying it myself instead of having to
piece everything together myself using µEMACS and SCRIBE manuals (which
are available although the latter isn't all that useful).
Shipping costs would have been rather steep though, hence my reluctance.

Glad it went to a good home and thanks again for these high quality scans!
It seems like a very well written manual and well worth preserving.

all the best
Patric
