Can anyone please post or email me a list of the command syntax for
the CP/M editor Word Master.

Background: I recently fired up the old Imsai (actually full of
Godbout boards) for the first time in many years, with the aim of
making some updates to my CPM3 BIOS. Unfortunately, the help file for
my only decent editor, Word Master, seems to be missing and too much
time spent on other things has erased my memories of it.

Incidentally, I guess this is an illegal copy. It came to me many
years ago on a beat-up floppy which had been mistakenly left in a
dual-Shugart 8" disk cabinet which I picked up in a flea market. I
well remember the breakthrough when I found out how to patch it to
recognise the control codes for my old Hazeltine 1400.

Thanks if anyone can find a cheat sheet.

Steve.

I've attached a list of the video mode commands, taken from a
review of the program in Creative Computing magazine. I can't
help with the command mode, but I think most of the commands
there were almost the same as in the CP/M ED editor, if you have
the manual for that. Here's the video mode list:

Cursor left character ^H
Cursor right character ^L
Cursor down line ^J
Cursor up line ^K
Cursor left word ^A
Cursor right word ^D
Cursor right tab stop ^Z
Cursor beginning/end of line ^B
Cursor top/bottom of screen ^^
Scroll down one line ^E
Scroll up one line ^X
Scroll down one screen ^C
Scroll up on screen ^R
Insertion on/off ^F
Delete character left Del
Delete character right ^G
Delete word left ^\
Delete word right ^O
Delete line left ^U
Delete line right ^P
Delete entire line ^Y
Tab ^I
Insert CR ^N
Insert CR or go to next line CR
Repeat four times ^W
Put in file even if ctrl ^]
IMSAI VIO control ^V
Leave video mode Esc

There are two versions of WordMaster commands. The early ones used
control H, J, K and L to move the cursor. The later ones used the
"WordStar" diamond (control A,D,E,X I think -- might be off by a key or
so). Which do you need ? As I have Wordmaster actually running on my
system (8086 code under MS-DOS), and as I have reassembleable source
code, I've had both versions. But the only help version that I can find
is for the newer one using the Wordstar diamond (I probably have the
other one, somewhere, but finding it is another story). Send me an
E-Mail and I'll send you the actual help file as an attachment.

Don, have you got a copy of the original SIG/M #005, with
several SOL Basic files?

I'm not sure, Bill, I'll have to do a little digging. Do you have any
titles handy?

Bill, I checked my copies and #005 is largely fiagnostic programs. No
Basic at all.

Don, my fault. It's SOL Basic/5.ASM,.COM,&.DOC should be files 1-3 on
disk eleven (#11), or 11.1, 11.2, and 11.3 I think they were on the
original #11 but later deleted, but to be thorough I'll check Oakland.

Well actually the SIG/M files currently available include a number of
gaps
because either permission to distribute some files has been withdrawn,
or
was never properly secured in the first place.

Well, it isn't a CP/M version, but I have a complete copy of Wordstar 2.2
for PC-DOS. It includes all the manuals, packing papers, reference card,
stickers for the keyboard, diskettes, and the original carton. I suspect
it's a legal copy. If the box wasn't rather tattered, I would call it a
"mint" copy.

I also have an original Digital Research CP/M 2.2 manual (the big 8-1/2 x
11 book with the tan cover) and I've heard original copies of that are
rare as well.

My copy of the manual for MicroSoft Basic for CP/M, unfortunately, is a
photocopy. I suspect that's the one that's really rare.

I have a manual for Microsoft Basic-80 that came with
an old Otrona Attache that I had.
The machine is gone but the book is still there and in
great condition too.

I doubt.

I have an original Microsoft-FORTRAN Manual with (original) Disk
for the Appel][.

And once I had a photocopy of a Microsoft-PASCAL Manual. That should
have been rare? I never had a copy of the programm, but Multiplan for
CP/M seemed to be written with it.

I believe that there are LOTS of legal copies of WordStar.

I go one legal CP/M copy with a Kaypro.

I got two IBM/PC DOS versions from a company that went out of business. The
company sold from a catalog that was sent to American Express Card holders.

I think they are 4 & 6 or maybe 5 & 6.

I still have a version of my W-98 machine because I have about 10 years work
of text files and mailing lists under wordstar. For the short run, I will
continue using it.

I guess that's a reference to the rampant copying of that program.
I've got 8" SSSD floppy disks of WordStar, MailMerge and such
from MicroPro with serial numbers on the outer envelopes.

Huh? That's news to me. I have at least 3 copies.

I have Wordstar Professional {version 4.0} and of course... WordStar
for DOS version 7.0D! So you can add two more to the list.

What can I say --- my fingers know the Control-Key combo's and they
are way too hard to reprogram. Heck I even have a problem when it
comes to using vi, which I have to use daily - unix admin.. I like
punishment ;-)

<OffTopic>
If you are ´the´ admin, you may install ohter editors...
There is "joe", which installs itself under some names,
one is "jstar" which behaves nearly completly like WS

But:

If I remember, WordMaster was about 10 KBytes; WordStar about 200 KBytes.
And, another Editor:

C:\> DIR Q*

QS EXE 45.710
QS HLP 12.168
QSINST EXE 62.938

This is a german Wordstar-Clone; mostly useful for Non-dokument-work.
the first version was reputadely written in FORTRAN, but a C-Version
must have existed, because the programm was available for CP/M-68K.
The original Inventor/Distributor got bancrupt some years ago.
