The Amstrad PCW8256 and the like used the VT-52 console control codes
for cursor positioning and such. Alot of programs used the VT-52
setting as a generic default, as a fall back, in leu of support for a
particular terminal make. I didn't know until now that the VT-52
refers to the DEC VT-52 terminal product made by DEC, I assumed it was
a standard like ascii is a standard. So, here is where the manual;
dec/terminal/EK-VT5X-OP-001_Oper_Mar77.pdf DECscope User's Manual
(Mar 1977), is:

http://www.bitsavers.org/pdf/dec/terminal/vt52/

and is a programmers reference for octal codes and how the VT-52
treats them.

Not sure what prompted that outburst, but FWIW, I've been using the
stuff at bitsaves as well as:

http://home.comcast.net/~davidwallace2000/h8/project8080_archive/pgs/h19esc.html

to overhaul the terminal emulation I did for my Windows port of z80pack
into something more H19-like. Don't know if I'll be able to fold it back
into WinSim, since this particular bit is being done for work (it's not
attached to z80pack at work, but to something else that wanted to do
terminal-like I/O)...

Sorry, no 'outburst' intended. I've searched comp.os.cpm in the past
for vt-52, and little has turned up. This topic line should draw
attention in future searches about dec's vt-52 standard for someone
else who is looking. CP/M-86 for the IBM PC/XT uses vt-52 terminal
controls in its bios, however the implementation is broken in a couple
of spots.

Just to fork the thread slightly - you (and others) might well be
interested in Vince Briel's new PockeTerm, a Propeller-based project
that uses a PS/2 keyboard and VGA monitor to talk almost-VT100 out a
serial port -
