Does anyone have the Infocom game "A Mind Forever Journeying"? I have
quite a number of the old CP/M Infocom games (Zork, etc.) and enjoyed
them immensely, but never heard of this one until just recently.

Perhaps you may have a look at "http://www.csd.uwo.ca/~pete/Infocom/"

This is an interesting site, Ed.

I have had a bit of a look at it & in

http://mirrow.aarnet.edu.au/pub/if-archive/games/pc/

there is a program call softporp.zip

Here is a run down of it:

softporp.zip another version of Chuck Benton's Apple II SoftPorn
Adventure
(which later became Leisure Suit Larry I), rewritten by
Paul Schlyter in Turbo Pascal 3.0 for CP/M and DOS.
DOS executable and Pascal source code.
(The original is in games/appleII/softporn.zip)
[file is linked to games/source/softporp.zip]

The .com files in it are DOS one, I've looked at the code & a simple
adjustment to softporp.pas should mean it should work under CP/M-86. I don't
know about other CP/M such as CP/M-80, but the program is Text Based so it
should compile.

I have no interest in Porting it (due to lack of interest in Text
Adventures), but just in case anyone does here it is.

Another one is

http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/if-archive/games/cpm/

which has a program in it called cpm-advent.zip which has a program written
in Fortran in it, this may bring some interest to this group. If there are
any Fortran enthusiasts here I've notice there are a few programs around
that web site written in Fortran.

Ross.

I think that you are refering to "A Mind Forever Voyaging". I have *not*
found a copy on the net that is for CP/M, but I did find copies for the
Commodore 128 and Commodore 64. You *might* be able to take the data file
and run it with the CP/M interpreter, depending on the version numbers.

I did a HotBot search on "A Mind Forever Voyaging" and got about 1200
hits...

Despite the fact that "A Mind Forever Voyaging" was type 4, I think
it may have been small enough and not use enough of the added features
to be actually playable on CP/M. I seem to remember playing AMFV on
a TRS80 model 1, as well as one other early type 4 game. Of course I
could be entirely wrong.

Thank you. Once I got the name right, Google did find a lot about it
(mostly excellent review and cheat sheets; not the game itself :-).

You're right; there was apparently no version for CP/M. But I did find a
company in England <http://www.lacegem.com> that had "The Masterpieces
of Infocom" in stock, which is a CD-ROM compilation of many of the
Infocom adventure games, including this one. It's only for the PC, but
that'll have to do.

Thank you, Charles. Once I had the correct name, I found this game on
the "Classic Text Adventure Masterpieces of Infocom" CD-ROM from
Interdata Developments in England at <www.lacegem.com>. I bought it for
32.95 pounds including shipping, and received it yesterday.

Though it is for a PC, I'll bet the data files for many of the games
will work on CP/M if I use the old CP/M interpreter to run them (at
least they did for Zork I, II, and III).

For the first time, my 6-year-old son opened the creaking trap door and
descended into the underground empire of Zork I. He loved it!
