I'd like to install a KayPlus ROM in my Kaypro 4. However, before I can do
that there's some tweaks that need to be made to the boot disks to make it
work with the new ROM. When I run the KPCNFG utility, it complains that the
system is a 63K system and states the max is 62K.

I figured this is no big deal and did a MOVCPM 62 * and sysgen'd a new boot
disk.

Doesn't work. Sign on banner still reads 63K and that's also reported by
the KPCNFG util. Any ideas?

I'm using CP/M 2.2F. (I've tried the FIX22F util and that doesn't have
any effect)

tnx!

IIRC Kaypro's MOVCPM.COM
is broken and fails to
relocate the system image
correctly -- something
about one or more of the
system segments not being
in properly relocatable
format within the .COM
file.

I encountered the same issue with my Kaypro 4-84 and ended up installing a TurboRom instead of the Kayplus ROM. The TurboRom tools will automatically resize CP/M for you. Everything you need is here:
http://antediluviandesigns.com/downloads/TurboRom_Kaypro_4.zip

If you come across a way to resize your Kaypro 4 CP/M, please post the information.

I just reassembled the source
files (commented disassemblies
of the CCP and BDOS were
available even back in the day,
and the BIOS source code was in
the "Tinker Kit" from Kaypro)
for the appropriate code origins
and made my own binary system
image to install via SYSGEN.COM,
using a debugger to concatentate
the assembled segments.

I too eventually went for the
TurboROM kit, which was a big
improvement in every respect,
including a proper MOVCPM.COM.

Thanks for the link Eric. Unfortunately, I want the KayPlus ROM because it
has explict support for 3.5" drives and the Advent Turbo ROM doesn't seem
to support this.

You already know that Kayplus ROM can be find here

Yes. In fact I've already got the ROM burned. I just wasn't aware of the
TPA restriction, nor the terminal issue with MOVCPM. I don't have the time
to chase down a solution with broken vendor provided software (movcpm), so
I've shelved the project.
