It's not a complete disaster - I've got the bootable floppy, and can save
my uucp configuration and other stuff I've done. The worst that can
happen is I have to reinstall.
But I wouldn't learn anything that way. Is there an alternative, a way
to rebuild coherent and autoboot? They are, by the way, the only things
gone. coherent.sym and all the other stuff are there.
8^) <---- sheepish grin...
Anyway, thanks. Strangely enough, this is fun. If there's anywhere I
can find anyone who can understand that, it's probably here...

Abort the tertiary boot loader with the space bar and type "coherent.min",
this boots the minimum kernel which was needed for the installation.
Abort the /etc/rc script with cntl-c after the kernel messages are
writen to the console.
Now cd to /etc/conf and type:
bin/idmkcoh -o /coherent
to recreate the kernel. Then type "ln /coherent /autoboot", sync the
filesystem several times and reboot the machine.

You can try the following:
- boot from your floppy
- mount your harddisk's root-partition on /
- mount any further filesystem
- build a news kernel
- link /autoboot to the new kernel
- try to shutdown ( your root-partition can't be unmounted, so unmount
every other partition, sync twice and - reset
Of course, you'll do it on your own risc.
