Question: does the C compiler in 3.2 support "large memory" model
programs or am I going to have to bite the bullet and buy a 486 so I
can run 4.2?

Also, you can run 4.2 on a 386 machine, many of which are quite inexpensive
now.
BTW, the "small" model does not necessarily mean "useless" model. I did
a lot of development for large Xenix and SGI systems with Coh 3.x. The
small model does force you to think carefully about resource usage -- that
isn't always a bad thing.

The first version of COHERENT using the flat-memory-model of the i386
was 4.0. You need to upgrade to a 386SX or higher but you don't _need_ a
486.CPU.
