Why can't I boot?

I'm attempting to install FreeBSD with a boot floppy. It goes as
far as attempting to mount fd0c and just hangs. If I hit the F2 key my
machine starts beeping. I'm using a 486sx. What can the problem be? Linux
and Minix-386vm works with no problem?
