I have found (and reported here)
a bug in disklable which prevents
writing new boot sectors to the hard
disk. However, I had no responses. This
might seem like a dumb question but
what do I do now:

a) fix it myself and publish here
b) post a fix to who ?
c) ??

as a fix to the "guts" of the disklabel
utility is a potentially dangerous
one I would like some confirmation
discussion before proceeding.

Im sure this info is on the CD
somewhere but Ive lent it
to soemone for a while and
cant get access to it.

Try posting to ques...@freebsd.org or hac...@freebsd.org; this
is not a very reliable propagation medium.

I saw the other report you posted, but it didn't give me enough
information about what you were seeing vs. what you expected to
see for me to make an intelligent response.

On the other hand, the people who "own" those pieces may not read
this news croup, but they certainly read the lists.

There are people (like me) that will take patch postings we see
here and put them on the is if the author doesn't put them both
places and after a timeout period has expired (the author may
just take a while to post to the lists).

...or bu...@freebsd.org. You can use send-pr(8) as well.

I think (from the few lines i've seen in this thread), it's actually
the same as another problem report i've already filed. I'm not even
sure if it's disklabel(8) that fails, at least for the problem as i've
seen it, i rather suspect the disklabel editor of sysinstall entering
bogus values. Fixing those values by running disklabel -e made my
disklabel(8) accept everything and finally write the new bootstrap.
