I have just installed FreeBSD 2.0 from the Walnut Creek CDROM. The
XFree Server seems unable to register my mouse button events until I
move the mouse, which, I believe, generates another event. For
example, if I press my left mouse button in the X root window, the root
menu does not pop up until I move the mouse pointer a bit.

I don't have the same problem with Linux which runs in another disk
partition on the same i486.

I suspect that there is a bug in the mouse driver. Has anybody
reported the same problem already ? And is there a fix too ?

You're probably using the 'Emulate3Button' option. It buffers the each
mouse button until either the mouse is moved or the second button is
pressed simultaneously. That way the server differentiates between
single button clicks and 'middle' button clicks.

Do you have Emulate3Buttons set? If so, try unsetting it.
