Hi,

I have currently a problem when testing my CORBA-Server.
The server is up and running and registered at the naming
service. (I have checked the status and the port with the
psit command)

When starting my test driver it tries to connect 10 times
to the server before it stops with the following exception:

10085-- Communication failure
- no server at host : lupo
[Completion status : COMPLETED_NO]

I have set the diagnostic level of the orb to 2 and got the
following output:

I have checked the libraries which I do link. They are the same for the test
driver
and the executable.

Has anyone of you got similar problems when trying to connect your
CORBA-Server ?

If yes, did you find out what the problem was/is ?

Many thanks in advance,

Hello,

If you run your client from the same machine as the server and the Naming
Service (assuming the Server and Naming Service are on the same machine!)
will it then work? Is there an option with your CORBA implementation to set
the host name to the IP address rether than the hostname in the reference it
sends for itself? With ORBacus this would mean you start your application
with the -OANumeric option.

Might the client computer have a DNS issue where it cannot connect to the
computer "lupo". I'd try "ping lupo" from the client computer to ensure
this works.

As well I would include the CORBA implemetation name and version in these
requests. It may be an implmenation specific problem you have!

Cheers,
Joe

This looks like an Orbix 2.x/3.x error.

Looking at the info, I can see that you are successfully contacting the
daemon on the remote machine, and you are apparently successfully contacting
the naming service too.

It then looks like the daemon is forwarding the request on to another
server, which it *thinks* is running on port 40087. Are you sure the server
is up and running on that port? What's the registered name of the server?
What does 'psit <servername>' give you, specifically?

Cheers,

-Bill

You could follow Bill Lloyd's advice at first:
1) type 'psit' command to check whether or not the server has been
started and what's port it occupies. You see, if the port is not
40087, the error occurs.
2) if 'psit' is proper, you should check whether the object
registration to Naming Service is correct or not.
