Hi, I've been upgrading a java app from 3.3.2 to 6.0 and my Japanese
users are getting the following exception when trying to connect to and
narrow the NameServer:

org.omg.CORBA.TRANSIENT: exceeded invocation forwarding limit: 20
vmcid: 0x49540000 minor code: 257 completed: No
2006-03-16 08:58:31,625 FATAL [Thread-1] (Context.java:168)

This seems to occurr on the narrow i.e. I do resove_initial_reference,
see a line of debug then do the narrow and then I get the exception.

The server is in London, my UK users' clients are working fine.

Can anyone give me some clues?

Thanks, Richard.

Got some further info:

could not lookup database info for host 'ficashdb1euu' - exception: name
resolut
ion failure: java.net.UnknownHostException: ficashdb1euu

which I find strange as, 1. the user can ping ficashdb1euu and 2. I've used
the fully qualified name in the corbaloc for NameService so why does the
error just report the machine name?

Hi Richard,

With corbaloc, you're just fetching an IOR stored somewhere on your CORBA
server, in your case either in your Orbix naming service (if it's
direct-persistent) or in your location service.

It sounds like you successfully fetch this IOR, but that this IOR, which
encodes the object identity, host name and port number of your target
object, includes a non-fully qualified hostname. This would explain why
local clients work fine while clients on a different network don't.

Unfortunately I don't remember how you control the hostname/IP address that
Orbix publishes in its IOR (you should use full hostnames for all IORs used
by remote clients). But I am sure somebody from IONA will be able to help.

Best regards,
Bernard
