The Institute for Pipe Organ Research and Education, Inc. (IPORE) has
released for public comment the first draft of an XML standard for
storing and transmitting pipe organ specifications.
The purpose of this standard is to provide a standard machine-readable
format for storing and transmitting pipe organ specifications. There
are a number of on-line repositories of organ specifications. Each one
uses a different format for storing specs, none of which are well
optimized for advanced searching or data analysis, often being simply
semi-formatted or unformatted text files. This standard will make it
feasible to perform data analysis on a level heretofore unattainable.
The public comment period will last at least until 31 December 2002.
Comments, corrections and suggestions are most welcome. For more
information, including the complete specification, point your web brower
at "http://www.ipore.org/XMLorganSpecs".
