Hi

I am a Doctoral student in Australia.

I am looking for participants in a study of the teaching of note names in
music.

To elaborate, I live in a world where students are taught that 1/4 note is a
ta sometimes, a 1/4 note at other times, and when doing theory exams it is a
crotchet. When I get these students in my classroom in Year 8 they are
totally confused to the point that they believe that a ti-ti is a "quaver
sort of thing" and a tikka-tikka is "something" but they're not sure what.

Have you had this experience or something like it? Have you had students
who do not understand the terms we use as musicians to describe the length
of notes? If you have or if you think you may be able to shed some light on
the subject, I'd love to hear from you.

Please contact me at cold...@optusnet.com.au

Thank you

Adrian
