Hi,
I just bought a used SCB-7 for my old Sound Blaster 16. Is there anyone
out there who is using a similar set-up on Windows 95? So far I have
been unsuccessful in getting the thing to work. Seems I am supposed to
load a MPU401 driver, but the disks that came with the SCB-7 are for
DOS.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Use : SBMidi Out or similar name in your Music Application. (Midi
setup/Devices or wathever midi out option) and your daughter board will
play.

Shawn,
I had to download full duplex drivers from www.creativelabs.com so that I
could simultaneously play a midi and use the microphone input. I believe
the drivers included in Windows 98 allow full duplex operation.

In Control Panel/Multimedia/Midi select SB16 Midi Out. In your music
application select SB16 Midi Out. To run multiple midi applications
simultaneously you need things like midiox, midiyoke, Midi Thruway, Hubi's
midicable (a piece of software) because Sound Blaster drivers do not allow
multiple clients. I think that the MPU401 driver has multi-client
capability but may not work with Sound Blaster.

I am confused. I downloaded the drivers from CreativeLabs, did the
add/remove hardware applet in Control Panel, and even the full duplex
feature worked. I have been happily using my SCB-7 for a couple of years.
Someday I shall conquer this multi-client capability.

Maybe someone in this group will explain multi-client midi to me if they see
my confusion.

I have quite a similar problem. I'm using a SB16 (relatively new) with a yamaha
db-50xg daughterboard.
I have a midi-interface-cable (gameport) connected to a roland d-70.
But after recording some notes with a sequencer the midi-signals are sent back
through the cable to the roland, the db50-daughterboard keeps quiet. As soon as
I disconnect the interface cable the db50 plays again.
Does anybody know how to solve this problem ? Is this a problem I cannot fix
with my SB16 ?

I had a similar setup (still have the DB50XG, but eventually swapped out the
SB16 for a Midiman DMAN). To play the DB50 sounds, connect only the
midi-out from the keyboard to the midi-in of the sound card adapter. If you
connect up the keyboard midi-in to the sound card midi-out the DB50XG will
be bypassed and you should get the sounds from the keyboard instead (you'll
also need to route the audio-out from the keyboard to the line-in of the
SB16 if you want to play the keyboard sounds on your computer speakers).

This is exactly what does not work :( As soon as I connect the interface cable
to the gameport all db50 - midi-output stops. (keyboard isn't connected at
all)Is this a problem of that special interface ?
My only explanation is that there are other interfaces cables which don't bypass
the internal midi device automatically when plugged-in..

Sounds like it might be the cable, cus I was able to use the keyboard to
play the DB50 sounds live. Only other possibility is that there may be
some kind of setting on the keyboard itself you need to change to enable it
to actually send midi data out to the DB50.

Another thought...I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that pluging
a joystick into the port would disable the DB connector on the SB16. If you
also have a joystick plugged in, try removing it. Also, do you have the
latest SB16 drivers? If not, definitely go to Creative's website and grab
them.
