I am currently using Win2000 most of the time. Sometimes I want to override
the driver that Win2000 is using and replace it with the driver that came
with the piece of hardware.

I notice that my Config.sys file is EMPTY. Is it safe to put
DEVICE=driver.sys or something in there ....and will that safely override
the driver that Win2000 uses. Or, will it at least allow me to use that
driver rather than the Win2000 generic driver for that piece of hardware?

I am a newbie....any help would be appreciated.

Win2000 is not DOS. It doesn't use config.sys, and a DOS device driver
probably won't work.

However Win2000 *is* WinNT. It uses config.nt (config.sys by another name)
to initialise its DOS emulation and some DOS drivers will work, provided
that they don't violate NT's hardware restrictions.
