EXE files don't launch any more, file association/registry problem?

Hi

I inadvertently deleted a couple of (I thought) virus-enabled/caused keys in
my registry. It seems the virus had hooked the launch process for executable
(EXE) files, and would launch a weird program (Sirc32.exe or similar) every
time I launched ANY EXE file.

Anyway, now exe files don't run any more, and it asks me to use folder
options and set an associated application to launch the EXE file with! I can
trick applications into starting, by trying to open some other file, and
saying "Open With" the application I need to run. But not all applications
can be thus fooled, and in any case its tedious!

Does anyone know how I can repair this mess, keeping in mind I can't run
regedit either (another exe file!) unless someone know the location of the
registry file - I have no idea, where it is in Win2K!

Thanks in Advance for any help!

Hi Ashu,

You probably got the Sircam virus. I found a regrepair file on the website
of FProt, wich I enclosed in my email to you. Since you'll probably be very
suspicious of e-mail attachments (as you should be!), you can also try
downloading it yourself from their website:
http://www.europe.f-secure.com/v-descs/sircam.shtml.

I hope it'll help you get rid of it.
