can anyone educate me on the value of V.92 modems?

Any ISP's supporting them?

Do I pay extra?

Is it worth it?

Any help is appreciated.

s> can anyone educate me on the value of V.92 modems?

http://www.v92.com/about/

the main feaature is: if you have call waiting, you are connected to the internet,
and someone is calling, the modem is able to switch to the 2nd call, let you talk,
then return to the data connection.

Thanks. What percent of the dial traffic is using this vs the v.90?

Nothing scientific - just a ball park (2% ; 20%; 80%)

Have a good one!

no idea. It's actually the matter of convenience - faster connect and data on hold;
the protocol remains the same. You also may want to check with your ISP, it seems
that they have to support data on hold. Here's another link: http://www.multitech.com/APPLICATIONS/data_fax/v92.asp

Hi,

As for the V92, you can try http://www.modemsite.com/56k/v92.asp for
what V92 has to offer, isp list etc. It's far better than
http://www.V92.com which seems to have a lack of update.
Also, I'm searching for a V92 self memory (Working even when computer
is off) modem supporting high speed for faxing ( 28,8 or 33,6 bps).
Can anyone help me ?
(answers via e-mail please, I'll post a summary here)

i think that ao and att are supporting this protocol, however i heard
that itmmight not work and that in many cases they have to disable v92
or even v90 to establish a reliable connection
