I can set rules in Mail on my iMac, but cannot see any way to do this on my
iPad. Is it possible?

Alternatively, I can set up rules in my Outlook mail webpage, but cannot
find a way to do this on my iCloud mail webpage. Again is this possible?

Am I missing something here?

John.

No. But the rules that run on your Mac will affect all your mail, even
on your iPad (well, assuming you are using IMAP as you absolutely should
be).

iCloud has some mail rules settings as I recall. but I have never used
it.

For some stupid reason there are no rules/filters in the iOS or iPadOS
versions of Mail.

You can create rules/filters at iCloud.com's version of Mail, but they
are only relatively simple options compared to the Mac version of Mail
(although having said that, Mac Mail's rules/filters are rather
clumsily implemented at best - often my rule's custom received sounds
are played long after I've already read and deleted the email, if at
all).

Of course that only works if your iOS/iPadOS device is using iCloud
servers to retrieve emails. If you are using another provider like
Outlook.com, GMail.com, etc. then you'll need to set up the
rules/filters using their webmail system instead ... which may or may
not affect the iOS/iPad device, depending on how their servers work.

Presumably because iPhones and iPads were historically people's
secondary devices, where you might occasionally check and send a quick
email, but any significant email management would be done on your laptop
or desktop.

(I know, things have changed since then. But Apple just don't seem to
add significant features to their own apps any more.)

That is precisely what I needed. Thank you.

I use AirMail as my email client in my iPad, you can create Smart Mailboxes
using many rules in it. Indispensable.

Indeed they do - eventually. But that needs my iMac to be woken up, and
until then the mails in question remain in the inbox.

I forget that some people turn off or sleep their computers.
