Hi.

Since Apple announced and started its annual back to school sales last
week, I asked USC.edu's computer store about its iPad sales. However,
they said there were none even for educational prices (same prices as
the ones shown on Apple.com's web site!). They said the cheaper prices
are only for computers (desktops and laptops/notebooks). They still do
come with online Apple App gift cards though.

Is this true or false? Thank you in advance. :)

I love T&F tests because I have an excellent chance of getting a
passing grade in a subject I know almost nothing about.

I do know about this subject, however.

TRUE. There is no educational discount (for individuals) on iPads. I
have, by coincidence, three discount possibilities available to me in
the Apple Store: education, government/military/veteran for personal
use, and small business. Of the three, only small business offers a
discount on the iPad, and it is a minimal discount. It ranges from $10
($489 vice $499) on the cheapest iPad to $19 ($910 vice $929) on the
most expensive iPad.

None of the three discount stores that I named offers a discount on the
iPhone. To my knowledge, the iPhone has never been discounted under
these programs.

One of the MBPro Retinas has a retail price of $2799. Education and
government stores both show a price of $2599 and the small business
store shows $2575. The discount buyer has to shop all stores before
buying.

Years ago some Apple discounts were deep. Software, in particular, was
heavily discounted. When I first purchased Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio
Pro (before they were bundled) the retail price was $1000 for each
application. The discount price was $500 each but there was an
additional $300 discount for buying both at the same time. Thus I paid
$700 for a $2000 retail software suite.

I've never heard of the Small Business option. Do you know where can I
find out more about that one?

For those who qualify, there's also the Developer discount and depending
on where you live or shop there can be a pensioner / senior citizen
discount. Not-for-profit and community organisations can also often
qualify for the education discount.

The operate phrase is "no educational discounts" full stop.

Apple did reduce its price for the iPad 2 computer so people have a choice
of a cheaper iPad.

As soon as there is a drop in sales they might consider having a education
price.
They had a special price for the Apple desktop computer in New Zealand
schools.

Not for the last few years.

Developer hardware discounts were a feature of the old "Select" and
"Premier" developer programmes, which Apple discontinued in March 2010
in favour of the much cheaper Mac Developer Program. If someone had
joined/renewed the old programmes as recently as March 2010, their
hardware discount would have been available until March 2011.

Apple lumps groups together. It is through my membership in the
American Association for the Advancement of Science
<http://www.aaas.org> that I qualify to purchase in the small business
store.
