Do you use your iPad as a camera?

When walking about I often come across people taking photos with their
iPad. I suspect the large screen is the main attraction to using the iPad
instead of a camera to photo things. Its also a useful way of e-mailing
someone a photo or putting it on Facebook.
A friend of mine who is on a overseas holiday is using his mini iPad to
take photos of his trip.

Just wondering if other people in this newsgroup often use their iPad as a
camera?
I have a iPad2 so the photo quality is too low to take any serious photos.
Now and then it cones in handy to take a photo and e-mail it if I want to
show something to somebody.

I've never used either camera. I do occasionally use the screen capture
function and send it to the printer.

I've used the rear camera to scan QR codes from my monitor, but that's
the grand total of it's use.

The nice thing about standards, there is enough for everyone to have their own.

I, too, am still using the iPad2 that I bought new. I took it with me on
my first summer trip and was not disappointed with the pictures it took
for me, but I later got a better camera.

Recently, I got a diary app (Day One) free during the iTunes Store
anniversary week. I find writing the diary more convenient on the iPad2
than on the iPhone5's tiny screen, and I add photos of the places and
people I write about to the diary page. The complete entries, including
photos, sync to the iPhone5.

As my 'phone is even lower quality than my iPad 3, I will use my iPad 3
as a camera, almost always for images which I add to a Tweet. Very
occasionally for a real image, but I much prefer my DSLR (Nikon D5200)
or my lighter Sony HX200V.

However, using the iPad forces you to slow down and concentrate a little
more in making the image, which may be no bad thing.

I have done this occasionally. I disagree about the photo quality,
but with caveats:

(1) if there is plenty of light and

(2) if your subject is not too close

you can take some very nice photos on the iPad.

Low light presents a problem.

Here is a link to about a million 1flickr photos taken with the iPad2.
There are a number of very nice photographs in that collection. (As
well as some bad ones of course.)

There is a camera that looks like it has a tablet stick to it. So you have
the advantage of having a camera (with real lens) that has a good sized
screen.

Yes we do that more and more with our iPad Minis. The quality of the
pictures/movies of the newest generation iPads/iPhones is so high that a
regular camera gets more and more obsolete/redundant.

The most striking feature of an iPad is the large screen while taking
pictures which gives a much better impression what you finally get as a
result.

That is exactly the reason why we opted for the Mini which for us has
exactly the right size and delivers the quality we need.
Our Minis have a permanent LTE-connection which allows sending movies
and pictures everywhere at any time at very high speeds.

Are you referring to the quality of the photos when viewed on a iPad
screen? Have you printed any of the photos to check the quality?

Our of interest how do you carry your mini around hen taking photos. Do you
put it in a container to protect the screen as its too big to fit in your
top pocket.

The main limitation is in not having an optical zoom on the iPad, still
people didn't miss this years ago before they had zoom cameras.

I was referring to the quality of the pictures in general. It does not
matter whether they are viewed on an iPad or on another screen. Ihaveno
need to prin the pictures anymore. I have done a couple of times for my
mother in law but they were OK for personal purposes. They are certainly
not meeting the quality requirements of professional uses.

I don't have the iPad always with me but certainly more often than a
dedeicated camera. I carry it usually in my briefcase when I' m commuting.

LTE=Long Term Evolution which is in fact the fourth generation mobile
network with bandwidths up to 100 Megabits/sec.
