Hello,

I realize that this is an iPad Forum, and not an iPhone one.

But I couldn't find one devoted to the phone, and I imagine that you
folks know about the phones also. So, as a Sr. Citizen, let me please
take the liberty of posting my question here.

Will be getting a new iPhone in a few weeks.
Have never had a "Smartphone" before.

Concerning my eMails: Presently, they all come to my PC Desktop via
Comcast.
My eMails address ends in @Comcast.net

Question: Without starting another eMail account, like a gMail, can I
have my Comcast eMails show up on my iPhone ?

They presently do show up on my iPad via the WiFi in my house.

Would it be the same for the new iPhone ?

Any details on how this would work and be implemented would be most
appreciated. Any caveats, or options, etc. ?

Thanks,
Bob

It will be the same on your iPhone. You can use the Comcast (Xfinity) app or
you can use Apple's mail program.

You will probably find it more convenient to pose iPhone questions in
the newsgroup <misc.phone.mobile.iphone>. There is some overlap of
messages between this group and that one. Albasani provides both, as do
all other newsgroup providers I know about.

Yes; Exactly the same way you have it set up for the iPhone.

The iPhone works like the iPad in every important respect. That
includes your e-mail.

The iPhone group is misc.phone.mobile.iphone. But your question is not
exactly out of place here.

As others have said, yes, the setup is the same as your iPad. However,
some network providers only let you send email from within their
network. I have Time Warner so I don't know about Comcast. If they
block sending from outside their network, you will notice everything
works well at home when using wi-fi (just like your iPad) but when
away from home, you won't be able to send (or reply). If that
happens, post back here and we can help you find alternative ways to
send (still using your Comcast email account). Have fun with your new
toy!

I receive mail via my ISP normally when I'm away from home, but have to use
their webmail(a miserable program) or an iCloud account I opened for that
purpose to send mail. At least with the iCloud address I can still use my
familiar Mail app.

Why not just go to Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars->Accounts and
select *Add Account*?
Then add your other, or ISP account to the Mail app.

I currently have my iCloud account which includes my @mac.com, &
@me.com addresses, a Gmail account, my ISP POP account, and a POP
account I have had since time long forgotten, all on the iOS Mail app.

Ever thought of using a free email service like Gmail? When I change
ISPs I don't have to mess with changing my (or the wife's) email
addresses. I use an IMAP client (K-9) on my Android devices and she
uses the built in iPhone email app, thus no webmail and no ads. And we
can send email from anywhere we have a connection. I'll bet even your
'familiar mail app' would work with it.

.?? I don't see what the multiple problems are. The iCloud account feeds
into my regular personal account. I only have to remember to switch to the
alternate "send" when away from home.

? The account already exists, but only works for receiving mail.

You are going to have to select an SMTP, outgoing mail server, I have
mine set for my ISP's SMTP server, smtp.charter.net. I suspect yours is
going to be smtp.comcast.net.

Otherwise you might consider Comcast's IMAP service over the POP
service you are using.

I guess I am fortunate to never have had a need to experience their
non-service.
